The Statistical Analysis of Air Crash Investigations from 1918 to 2019

ÜMİT DENİZ GÖKER

Makale | 2021 | Savunma Bilimleri Dergisi

Air transportation is one of the most preferred types of transportation for many reasons. However, to minimize the risk of accidents with developing technology, investigations and studies are carried out by many organizations. While the main causes of accidents in the first years of aviation were due to mechanical reasons, accidents caused by mechanical reasons have been replaced by an increase in the number of aircraft accidents caused by human-induced errors which depend on the increasing manpower with the developing technology. Nowadays, “Aviation” has become a high level of technical, administrative, and even technological opera . . .tions. This was made possible by the introduction and production of larger and faster aircraft, which largely includes advanced information management technologies. From an industrial point of view, the fact that aircraft can carry people, cargo, mail, and similar at a more affordable price and in a shorter time has made aviation an important sectoral value. Competition has increased with the increase of aviation companies; therefore, businesses that tend to give overload to employees for the sake of gaining more can cause aircraft accidents. Increased traffic volume and demand for air transportation mean risks and increases in air crashes. In this study, human-induced errors and mechanical system errors, which cause air crashes are mentioned and the statistical analysis of air crashes between the years 1918-2019 is examined Daha fazlası Daha az

The Leukemia Healthy and Unhealthy Detection with Wavelet Transform Based On Co-Occurrence Matrix and Support Vector Machine

Javad Rahebi

Makale | 2021 | Avrupa Bilim ve Teknoloji Dergisi

Leukemia is a malignant disease and belongs in a broader sense to Cancers. There are many types of leukemia, each of which requires specific treatment. Leukemia is almost one-third of all cancer deaths in children and young people. The most common type of leukemia in children is acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL). In this paper, a new approach is implanted on Leukemia ALL database. For the method the wavelet transform is used for feature extraction, the gray level co-occurrence matrix is used. Also, for classification, the SVM (Support Vector Machine) method is used. The proposed method is the best in applying the system designed to . . . the Local Binary Pattern (LBP) and Histogram of Orientation (HOG) methods. This system aims to detect, diagnose, and verify leukemia cells from microscopic images to get high accuracy, efficiency, reliability, less processing time, smaller error, not complexity, fast, and easy to work. The system was built using microscopic images by examining changes in texture, colors, and statistical analysis. The success rate was 96.1667% for cancer data and 99.8833% for non-cancer data Daha fazlası Daha az

EMOTIONAL LABOR, QUALITY OF WORK LIFE, AND LIFE SATISFACTION OF TOUR GUIDES: THE MEDIATING ROLE OF BURNOUT

DERYA DEMİRDELEN ALRAWADIEH

Makale | 2021 | Journal of Tourism, Leisure and Hospitality

The impact of emotional labor on employees’ well-being has received little attention. Specifically, previous research is not consistent when the different outcomes of emotional labor on tourism employees’ personal and professional life are considered. Drawing on emotional labor and well-being theories, the present study proposes a conceptual model linking emotional labor’s dimensions (i.e., emotional dissonance and emotional effort) with other social and organizational variables. Using data from Turkish tour guides, the study reveals that while emotional dissonance increases burnout and turnover intention and decreases the quality o . . .f work life, emotional effort is associated with decreased burnout and enhanced quality of work life and life satisfaction. The study confirms the mediating role of burnout on the relationship between emotional dissonance and quality of work life, as well as the relationship between emotional dissonance and life satisfaction. However, the study results fail to confirm the moderating role of organizational support on the relationship between emotional dissonance and burnout. The study makes several theoretical contributions and suggests implications for different stakeholders Daha fazlası Daha az

Makale | 2019 | Eskişehir Teknik Üniversitesi Bilim ve Teknoloji Dergisi C- yaşam Bilimleri ve Biyoteknoloji (Online)

In this study we evaluated the secondary metabolites, total phenolic (TPC) and flavonoid contents (TFC), antioxidant andantimicrobial activities of salep orchids, Anacamptis morio, Anacamptis pyramidalis, Neotinea tridentata, Ophrys mammosa,Ophrys lutea, and Ophrys speculum. DPPH free radical scavenging assay was used to determine the antioxidant activities ofn-hexane, chloroform, methanol and water extracts of the plants. The antimicrobial activities were also determined by the Brothmicro-dilution method. The extracts were studied for antimicrobial activity by the Minimum Inhibitory Concentration (MIC)approach against seven clinica . . .l pathogenic bacteria and two fungi. Phytochemical screening revealed that the presences ofcoumarins, flavonoids, flavanones, cardiac glycosides, proteins and quinones. The extracts had variable TPC and TFC, withvalues of 4.46 ± 0.19–45.83 ± 1.86 mg gallic acid equivalent/g dry weight and 0.67 ± 0.04–8.64 ± 0.37 mg quercetinequivalent/g dry weight respectively. O. speculum had the highest (35.12%) antioxidant activity, followed by O. mammosa(33.17%). Chloroform extracts of all species showed significant antioxidant and antimicrobial activity. These bioactivities ofthe chloroform extracts were positively associated with the total phenolic and flavonoid contents. The MIC concentrationsranged from 0.156–20 mg/mL. The present investigation shows that the extracts of these species, especially chloroformextracts, could be used as potential antioxidant and antimicrobial sources Daha fazlası Daha az

Human retinal optic disc detection with grasshopper optimization algorithm

Javad Rahebi

Makale | 2022 | Multimedia Tools and Applications

A growing number of qualified ophthalmologists are promoting the need to use computer-based retinal eye processing image recognition technologies. There are differ- ent methods and algorithms in retinal images for detecting optic discs. Much attention has been paid in recent years using intelligent algorithms. In this paper, in the human retinal images, we used the Grasshopper optimization algorithm to implement a new automated method for detecting an optic disc. The clever algorithm is influenced by the social nature of the grasshopper, the intelligent Grasshopper algorithm. Include this algorithm; the population contains the grass . . .hoppers, each of which has a common luminance or exercise score. In this method, two-by-two insects are compared, so it could be shown that less attractive insects shift towards more attractive insects. Finally, one of the most attractive insects is selected, and this insect gives an optimum solution to the problem. Here, we used the light intensity of the retinal pixels instead of grasshopper illuminations. Accord- ing to local variations, the effect of these insects also indicates different light intensity values in images. Since the brightest area “represents the optic disc in retinal images, all insects travel to the brightest area, which leads to the determined position for an optic disc in the image. The performance was evaluated on 210 images, reflecting three Open to the public and sequentially distributed datasets DIARETDB1 89 images, STARE 81 images, and DRIVE 40 images. The results of the proposed algorithm implementation give a 99.51% accuracy rate in the DiaRetDB1 dataset, 99.67% in the STARE dataset, and 99.62% in the DRIVE dataset. The results of the implementation show the strong capacity and accuracy of the proposed algorithm for detecting the optic disc from retinal images. Also, the recorded time required for (OD) detection in these images is180.14 s for the DiaRetDB1, 65.13s for STARE, and 80.64s for DRIVE, respectively. These are average values for the times Daha fazlası Daha az

Class Conflict with its Causes & Effects in The Kitchen by Arnold Wesker

ELVAN KARAMAN

Makale | 2021 | Essence & Critique: Journal of Literature and Drama Studies

The Kitchen by Arnold Wesker is one of the remarkable plays of the post-war period in England. This paper will analyse the class conflict with its causes and effects in this play in the light of Marxist literary criticism to point out that the socio-economic conditions of the post-war period do not promise a good future to the lower class with developed living and working circumstances. The working class characters, the personnel of the Tivoli Restaurant, are observed to work heavily under harsh conditions, because of which they always have the possibility of injuring themselves. Apart from their fast tempo, their hardwork is never . . .appreciated. Thus, their labour-power is commodified by the owner of the restaurant, Mr. Marango, and they are alienated from their work along with the food they cook. What is more, their hard working and living circumstances result in a moral decline in the lower class characters. In consequence, they cannot change their viewpoints to improve their conditions and they continue living in a vicious circle. They just work under the tension of being rebuked or humiliated by Mr Marango, whose life is his restaurant Daha fazlası Daha az

From Secular Muslim Feminisimto Islamic Feminism(s) and New Generation Islamic Feministsin Egypt, Iran and Turkey

ZEYNEP BANU DALAMAN

Makale | 2021 | Border Crossing

Indominantly Muslim societies, there have been two major feminist paradigms referred to as “secular Muslim feminism”emerging at late nineteenth century and “Islamic feminism(s)”arising after the 4th women world congress inBeijingin 1995. They evolved in historical contexts where new subjects and identities were being re/fashioned out of shifting combinations of religious, class, ethnic, and nationalaffiliations. On the one hand, secular Muslim feminism joined the western oriented first wave of liberal feminism including secular nationalists, Islamic modernists, humanitarian/human rightists, and democrats. Islamic feminism,on the oth . . .er hand,is expressed in a single or dominantly religiously grounded discourse taking the Qur'an as its core text. In this article, I reflect on the roots of feminism in the Middle Eastwith a particular emphasis on Egypt, Iran and Turkey. I discusssecular feminism and Islamic feminism, and what makes them distinct. Finally, I discuss whether a new wave of Islamic feminism has been formed with the criticisms of a new generation of Islamic feminists Daha fazlası Daha az

Child soldier realty in Uganda: International law and reintegration

ZEYNEP BANU DALAMAN

Makale | 2020 | Border Crossing

The use of children who have been most exposed to the destructive effects of wars for various military activities has been seen throughout history. Child soldiers are involved in civil wars and conflicts in many countries, especially in Africa, without discrimination. Even if the participation of 15-year-olds in the Army is accepted as a war crime by the United Nations, some 300,000 children are actively involved in wars today. The key to child soldiers is the reintroduction and retraining of these children. However, what should be mentioned here is that these children are guilty? Or a victim? In this article, the child soldier prob . . .lem will be discussed from two angles. First, the effectiveness of the decisions taken to prevent criminal organisations and states from committing this crime to recruit child soldiers within the framework of international law rules will be discussed. Secondly, based on the example of Uganda, the programs prepared by the international community for the reintegration of former child warriors to society will be analysed Daha fazlası Daha az

Bildiri | 2018 | 13th International Congress on Advances in Civil Engineering, 12-14 September 2018, Izmir/TURKEY

Drought which is one of the most injurious natural hazards is defined as lack of rainfall that leads to a temporary decrease or deficit in natural water availability. Droughts may result in long-term environmental, social and economic impacts. Therefore, drought forecasting is an important hydrological phenomena and it plays a major role in risk management, drought preparedness and the implementation of mitigation measures. The objective of this study is to analyze drought characteristics of Meric-Ergene, Gediz, Seyhan and Ceyhan hydrological basins in Turkey. Standardized Precipitation Index (SPI) is used in drought analysis based . . .on the monthly precipitation data from meteorological stations. Frequency analysis using SPI has implemented for the derivation of drought severity-duration-frequency curves corresponding to 5, 10, 20, 50 and 100-year return periods. Daha fazlası Daha az

Trend Analysis of Low Flows

Selen Orta

Bildiri | 2019 | 9th International Symposium on Atmospheric Sciences ATMOS 2019

Determination of trends in low flows has a great importance in water resources planning and operation. Hydrological assessment on low flows is required in water quality control problems, water supply projects, irrigation, recreation, and ecological conservation. Trends in low flows could be seen as potential evidences of climate change, and significantly affect short-, medium-, and long-term future decisions. The main objective of this study is to identify low flow trends for gauging stations in four hydrological basins, Meriç-Ergene, Gediz, Ceyhan and Seyhan, from different regions in Turkey. For the analysis, 3, 2, 2 and 5 flow ga . . .uges were selected for Meriç-Ergene, Gediz, Seyhan and Ceyhan basins, respectively. In the study, data from gauging stations with either no or minimum anthropogenic activities are considered. Therefore, record period for each gauging station has been selected such that influence by any upstream dam or water structure is excluded. Stream gauges with common period of 27 years from 1988 to 2014 are used. In the study, the D-day average time series are obtained by taking the overlapping D-day average of the daily streamflow time series. Low flows of D = 1, 7, 14, 30, 90 and 273-day are considered. The non-parametric Mann-Kendall test which has found an effective and general use to assess the significance of trend in hydrological time series is applied. Results on the existence and the significance of trends in low flow characteristics of hydrological basins are obtained and discussed Daha fazlası Daha az
