Transcranial direct current stimulation combined with cognitive training improves decision making and executive functions in opioid use disorder: a triple-blind sham-controlled pilot study

GÖZDE AKKAYA

Makale | 2023 | Journal of Addictive Diseases , pp.1 - 12

Background: Opioid use disorder (OUD) is a chronic disorder with a considerable amount of morbidity and mortality. Despite remarkable improvement achieved by maintenance programs, an array of treatment goals were still unmet. Mounting evidence suggests that transcranial Direct Current Stimulation (tDCS) improves decision making and cognitive functions in addictive disorders. tDCS paired with a decision making task was depicted to diminish impulsivity as well. Objectives: The present study aimed to assess the effect of tDCS combined with cognitive training (CT) in OUD for the first time. Methods: In this triple-blind randomized sham- . . .controlled pilot study, 38 individuals with OUD from the Buprenorphine-Naloxone Maintenance Therapy program were administered 20-minutes of 2mA active/sham tDCS over the dorsolateral prefrontal cortex with concomitant cognitive training. A selected test battery evaluating decision making under risk and ambiguity as well as executive functions, verbal fluency and working memory was utilized before and after the intervention. Results: Greater improvements were observed in decision making under ambiguity (p=0.016), set shifting ability and alternating fluency while no improvements were observed in decision making under risk in the active group, compared to sham. Conclusions: Deficits of decision making and executive functions have a pivotal role in the perpetuation and the relapse of the OUD. Alleviation of these impairments brought tDCS/ CT forth as an expedient neuroscientifically-grounded treatment option that merits further exploration in OUD, Trial registration: NCT05568251 Daha fazlası Daha az

increasing. Such a transition can be made possible through the conversion of existing business models as well as the introduction of new, circular ones. When it comes to application, circular business models can be adopted by both existing companies and start-ups. Among these two, academic research has traditionally focused more on existing companies. Therefore, more studies are needed on circular economy related activities of start-ups. As an exploratory study, this research analyses circularity strategies and circular business models used by start-ups within Turkey. The analysis is based on the data collected from 47 companies. As . . . a result, we found that most frequently used circularity strategy by circular start-ups in Turkey is Recycling, followed by Rethinking. As for circular business models used by these companies, we observed that Next Life- Extending Resource Value and Collaborative Consumption- Sharing Platform models are the most popular ones. In addition, we suggest that circular start-ups in Turkey can be categorised under five categories:1) Recycling Companies, 2) Sharing Based Endeavours, 3) Recycled Material Users, 4) Second-Hand Product Marketplaces, 5) Waste Management Platforms. modeline geçiş yapmaları ihtiyacı artmaktadır.

Alternative modernities and epistemic struggles for recognition in Turkish media: deconstructing Eurocentrism?

Elif Gençkal Eroler

Makale | 2023 | Third World Quarterly , pp.1 - 19

The concept of modernity and its association with the West and secu-larism is being challenged with the rise of religious movements in the age of globalisation. This provides a fertile ground for alternative moder-nities, disconnected from the West and secularism, to surface. This paper provides a theoretical explanation for the emergence of alternative modernities by drawing on insights from epistemic injustice and rec-ognition theory, through an analysis of Turkish media outlets. Turkey serves as an illustrative case to examine the emergence of alternative modernities due to its long-standing tradition of incorporating Western mod . . .ernity and its complex liminal identity between the boundaries of the East and the West. This paper argues that the period from 2005 to 2020 presented a window of opportunity for an alternative modernities paradigm to engage in epistemic struggles for recognition, supported by the ideological context of the Justice and Development Party (Adalet ve Kalkınma Partisi or AKP) government. This period paved the way for questioning the superiority and uniqueness of Western modernity. However, it also indicates the birth of a new form of epistemic injustice as counter-narratives defending the superiority of Islamic civilisation emerged, seeking to establish epistemic hegemony for Islam and its association with modernity Daha fazlası Daha az

Validation of the Collaborative Outcomes study on Health and Functioning during Infection Times (COH-FIT) questionnaire for adults

ASLI ENEZ DARÇIN

Makale | 2022 | JOURNAL OF AFFECTIVE DISORDERS 326 , pp.249 - 261

Background: The Collaborative Outcome study on Health and Functioning during Infection Times (COH-FIT; www.coh-fit.com) is an anonymous and global online survey measuring health and functioning during the COVID-19 pandemic. The aim of this study was to test concurrently the validity of COH-FIT items and the internal validity of the co-primary outcome, a composite psychopathology “P-score”. Methods: The COH-FIT survey has been translated into 30 languages (two blind forward-translations, consensus, one independent English back-translation, final harmonization). To measure mental health, 1–4 items (“COH-FIT items”) were extracted from . . . validated questionnaires (e.g. Patient Health Questionnaire 9). COH-FIT items measured anxiety, depressive, post-traumatic, obsessive-compulsive, bipolar and psychotic symptoms, as well as stress, sleep and concentration. COH-FIT Items which correlated r ≥ 0.5 with validated companion questionnaires, were initially retained. A P-score factor structure was then identified from these items using exploratory factor analysis (EFA) and confirmatory factor analyses (CFA) on data split into training and validation sets. Consistency of results across languages, gender and age was assessed. Results: From >150,000 adult responses by May 6th, 2022, a subset of 22,456 completed both COH-FIT items and validated questionnaires. Concurrent validity was consistently demonstrated across different languages for COHFIT items. CFA confirmed EFA results of five first-order factors (anxiety, depression, post-traumatic, psychotic, psychophysiologic symptoms) and revealed a single second-order factor P-score, with high internal reliability (ω = 0.95). Factor structure was consistent across age and sex. Conclusions: COH-FIT is a valid instrument to globally measure mental health during infection times. The P-score is a valid measure of multidimensional mental health. Daha fazlası Daha az

Colon Disease Diagnosis with Convolutional Neural Network and Grasshopper Optimization Algorithm

Javad Rahebi

Makale | 2023 | DIAGNOSTICS 13 ( 10 ) , pp.1 - 14

This paper presents a robust colon cancer diagnosis method based on the feature selection method. The proposed method for colon disease diagnosis can be divided into three steps. In the first step, the images’ features were extracted based on the convolutional neural network. Squeezenet, Resnet-50, AlexNet, and GoogleNet were used for the convolutional neural network. The extracted features are huge, and the number of features cannot be appropriate for training the system. For this reason, the metaheuristic method is used in the second step to reduce the number of features. This research uses the grasshopper optimization algorithm t . . .o select the best features from the feature data. Finally, using machine learning methods, colon disease diagnosis was found to be accurate and successful. Two classification methods are applied for the evaluation of the proposed method. These methods include the decision tree and the support vector machine. The sensitivity, specificity, accuracy, and F1Score have been used to evaluate the proposed method. For Squeezenet based on the support vector machine, we obtained results of 99.34%, 99.41%, 99.12%, 98.91% and 98.94% for sensitivity, specificity, accuracy, precision, and F1Score, respectively. In the end, we compared the suggested recognition method’s performance to the performances of other methods, including 9-layer CNN, random forest, 7-layer CNN, and DropBlock. We demonstrated that our solution outperformed the others Daha fazlası Daha az

Makale | 2023 | The British journal of radiology , pp.1 - 11

Objectives: Our study used a radiomics method to differentiate bone marrow signal abnormality (BMSA) between Charcot neuroarthropathy (CN) and osteomyelitis (OM). Materials and Method: The records of 166 patients with diabetic foot suspected CN or OM between January 2020 and March 2022 were retrospectively examined. A total of 41 patients with BMSA on MRI were included in this study. The diagnosis of OM was confirmed histologically in 24 of 41 patients. We clinically followed 17 patients as CN with laboratory tests. We also included 29 nondiabetic patients with traumatic (TR) BMSA on MRI as the third group. Contours of all BMSA on T . . .1 and T2-weighted images in three patient groups were segmented semi-automatically on ManSeg (v.2.7d). The T1 and T2 features of three groups in radiomics were statistically evaluated. We applied multi-class classification (MCC) and binary-class classification (BCC) methodology to compare classification results. Results: For MCC, the accuracy of Multi-Layer Perceptron (MLP) was 76.92% and 84.38% for T1 and T2, respectively. According to BCC, for CN, OM and TR BMSA, the sensitivity of MLP is 74%, 89.23%, and 76.19% for T1, and 90.57%, 85.92%, 86.81% for T2, respectively. For CN, OM, and TR BMSA, the specificity of MLP is 89.16%, 87.57%, and 90.72% for T1 and 93.55%, 89.94%, and 90.48% for T2 images, respectively. Conclusion: In the diabetic foot, the radiomics method can differentiate the BMSA of CN and OM with high accuracy. Advances in knowledge: The radiomics method can differentiate the BMSA of CN and OM with high accuracy Daha fazlası Daha az

FATMA ALTUNTAŞ

Makale | 2023 | KYBERNETES , pp.1 - 11

Purpose – The textile sector is one of the sectors where competition is intense and requires the production of high-value-added products. This study aims to conduct patent analysis to find the technology status, recent trends, applications and technological evaluations of protective textile technologies in practice. Design/methodology/approach – More than 36,840 patent documents related to protective textile technologies are available for researchers, patent examiners and patent researchers. Patent analysis is conducted to report the technology status, recent trends and applications of protective textile technologies. This analysis . . .provides insights into the possible future directions of protective textile technologies in practice. Additionally, association rule mining (ARM) is performed to find the hidden patterns among protective textile technologies. Findings – The development of protective textile technologies is revealed by the technology evaluation in this study. In addition, the sub-technology classes affecting protective textile technologies are examined using the cooperative patent classification (CPC) codes of the patent documents. Technology status and recent trends of protective textile technologies are provided in detail. The results of this study show that (1) protective textile technologies are constantly being developed, (2) the working areas of medical protective textiles are increasing, (3) there are frequent studies on fabric structures for saving lives within the framework of human needs and (4) there are four technology classes, namely A41D, Y10T, B32B and A62B impacting the other technology classes related to textile technologies such as D10B, Y10T, F41H, A62D, D04H, Y10S and D10B. Originality/value – To have a competitive advantage in the marketplace, evaluation of textile technologies is critical in developing “functionalized” and “technologized” textile products. In particular, evaluating technologies in developing protective textile products is extremely important to meet customer demands and present competitive products in the market. Examining these patents for technology developers, decisionmakers and policymakers is an urgent and necessary job. However, studies examining the development of protective textile technologies with patent analysis are very limited in the literature. Çiğdem KÖŞE

Makale | 2023 | OURNAL OF TRAUMA & DISSOCIATION , pp.1 - 16

After the changes in DSM-5, dissociative subtype was added to post-traumatic stress disorder. That caused a necessity for a scale to measure the mentioned change. A scale named Dissociative Subtype of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (DSPS) was developed to measure this subtype and help the diagnosis. The purpose of this study is to adapt the Dissociative Subtype of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder to Turkish and examine its relia-bility and validity. The Dissociative Subtype of PTSD (DSPS) was translated into Turkish. DSPS, Turkish forms of The Posttraumatic Diagnostic Scale and Dissociative Experiences Scale were sent to participants . . .via Google Forms and data from 279 people aged 18–45 were analyzed. Reliability tests and factor analysis were conducted. Factor analysis showed that scale has good model fit scores and items were loaded to the factors the same as the original study. Scales internal con-sistency was examined, and a good score was obtained (α=.84). Fit index values of confirmatory factor analysis were found as χ2/df = 2.51, GFI=.90, RMSEA=.07, RMR=.02. As a result of the high reliability scores and sufficient model fit scores, this scale is considered as a dependable measure to evaluate the dissocia-tive subtype of PTS Daha fazlası Daha az

Spatial Constructions of Homeland in Turkish National Identity: Exclusion and Inclusion of Europe

Elif Gençkal Eroler

Makale | 2023 | ULUSLARARASI İLİŞKİLER | INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS20 ( 77 ) , pp.17 - 33

This paper focuses on the geographical, historical, and cultural spatializations of Turkish national identity by political elites in the post-2000 era. Considering the close link between the formation of national identity and the spatial constructions of homeland, the paper shows that Turkish national identity since the foundation of the Republic has been constructed through different supranational visions, navigating through different civilizational ingredients. We show that the Kemalists’ Western-oriented or Eurocentric geopolitical discourses, which perceive Turkey as a “bridge country”, have been transformed in the postCold War . . .era into a more ambitious geopolitical discourse of a “central country”, which aims to broaden Turkey’s “identity space” through its Ottoman heritage. In line with this transformation, in the 2000s, the Turkish homeland was imagined as the “cradle of civilizations”, but the national identity did not develop as a counter-hegemonic measure against the West (Europe). The post-2010 era – with a pronounced emphasis on Islamic culture and Ottoman geopolitical space – constitutes a departure from the previous years’ spatial and identity constructions of Turkey, in the sense that the political elites’ perception of national identity has never gone beyond the national frontiers to this extent, and the West (Europe) has never been so trivialized in terms of progress and civilization Daha fazlası Daha az

How Managers’ Green Transformational Leadership Affects a Firm’s Environmental Strategy, Green Innovation, and Performance: The Moderating Impact of Differentiation Strategy

BURCU ÖZGÜL

Makale | 2023 | Sustainability15 ( 4 ) , pp.1 - 20

No prior literature has investigated the effect of managers’ green transformational leadership (GTL) on financial performance (FP). The current study introduces an original research framework with the aim of filling in this gap. This study introduces a completer analytical framework by considering the direct impacts of managers’ GTL on FP and the indirect impacts of managers’ GTL under the joint action of corporate environmental strategy (CES), green product innovation (GPT), and green process innovation (GPI). Furthermore, based on the question of how enterprises can earn profit from GPT, analyzing the moderator impact of different . . .iation strategy on the relationship between GPT and FP is also within the context of the present study. The data collected from 315 firms with the ISO 14001 certificate in the First and Second 500 Industrial Enterprises List of Turkey in 2018 were tested in the SmartPLS 3 analysis program. The empirical evidence shows that managers’ GTL affects FP both directly and indirectly through CES and GPI. However, it is concluded that GPT does not have a direct positive impact on FP. Considering GPT and differentiation strategy jointly, it is observed that its relationship with FP is positive and significan Daha fazlası Daha az
