Gayrimüslimlerin ço¤unlukta olufluyla bilinen Galata semti, 1696’daki büyük yang›n›n ard›ndan demografik ve dini yap›s›nda önemli bir de¤ifliklik geçirdi. Semtin en önemli Katolik yap›s› olan San Francesco Kilisesi’nin yeniden yap›m›na izin verilmedi. Yerine, II. Mustafa’n›n annesi Gülnufl Valide Sultan taraf›ndan Galata’n›n ilk ve tek valide sultan camisiyle bir çeflme infla edildi. Gülnufl
Sultan sonraki y›llarda, camisinin çevresine
yerleflen semtin yeni Müslüman sakinleri
ve gayrimüslim tebaa için daimi tatl› su
kayna¤› aray›fl›n› sürdürdü. Böylece üç yeni
çeflme yapt›rd›, iki çeflmenin onar›m›n›
üstlendi ve hepsine yeni s . . .u yollar›yla su
sa¤lad›. Bu, Galata halk› için s›cak yaz
aylar›nda büyük bir nimetti. Bu makalede,
ilk kez yay›nlanan belgeler ›fl›¤›nda söz
konusu çeflmeler ve su yollar›n›n ortaya
ç›k›fl süreci ele al›nacakt›r. Gülnufl
Sultan’›n finanse etti¤i bu hayrat,
Galata’n›n gayrimüslim kimli¤inin
de¤iflmesinde de etkili olmufltur.
Dolay›s›yla bu makale, Gülnufl Sultan’›n
giriflti¤i bu imar faaliyetlerinin nas›l
gerçeklefltiğini aydınlatırken, bunun en az
infla ettirdi¤i cami kadar önemli olduğunu
da ortaya koymaktadır

The aim of this study is to find out the EFL students' preferences of the language learning strategies and the difficulty they experienced with the application of these strategies while learning English in a preparatory program at a vocational university in Istanbul, Turkey. A total of seventy four preparatory students participated in the study. Data were obtained through a questionnaire about the language learning strategies. The findings of the study revealed significant implications in relation to emphasizing language learning strategies in preparatory programs.
This study aims to evaluate children's picture books for 0-3-year-olds on the market in Turkey with respect to their physical features, illustrations and content. A total of 146 children's books for sale in Ankara and Istanbul bookshops were studied. Data were collected by using a five-part book check list designed by the researchers. The frequencies and percentages of these data were computed by using the SPSS16 statistical package. The results revealed that books for 0-3-year-olds generally reflect positive physical, illustration and content features listed in the literature but may be improved in several ways.
